- Prepare drawings and production-ready files and support simple CNC or 3D printing runs.
- Assist in material selection and make cost-aware design suggestions.
- Convert sketches and concept notes into measurable design requirements.
Testing & Data:
- Build and instrument prototypes, then collect thermal and mechanical performance data.
- Run basic FEA or spreadsheet calculations to compare design options.
- Organise test data, produce clear charts, and summarise findings for the team.
- Help calibrate test rigs and maintain lab test schedules.
Teamwork & Documentation:
- Collaborate with software, electronics, and product teams to meet integrated system needs.
- Maintain BOMs, version-controlled CAD files, and concise build instructions.
- Support small-part sourcing and liaise with vendors for prototyping components.
- Write short technical notes that explain design decisions and test outcomes.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 0 to 1 year of hands-on experience, lab projects, or internship work is appropriate for this role.
- Available for at least a 3 month placement and able to work on-site or in coordinated hybrid schedules.
- A basic portfolio of class projects or prototype photos is helpful but not required.
Hard Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks or Fusion 360, and ability to produce simple production drawings.
- Familiarity with basic FEA concepts, thermal analysis, and data processing using MATLAB or Python.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping tools such as 3D printers and common workshop equipment and awareness of safety practices.
- Comfort with basic measurement tools like calipers, thermocouples, and multimeters.
Soft Skills & Qualities:
- Curious and hands-on, with willingness to learn from iteration and feedback.
