Job Summary
This Retail Sales Assistant role is the backbone of on-floor service, keeping daily operations running and supporting customers with confidence. The position builds hands-on retail experience while helping the team hit sales and presentation targets. Responsibilities
Customer Experience
- Greet customers, listen to their needs, and recommend products clearly and politely.
- Process sales and returns at the checkout while ensuring accuracy and a smooth customer flow.
- Follow up on customer queries and escalate issues to supervisors when needed.
- Maintain friendly service standards during busy periods and quieter times.
Store Operations
- Operate the POS and handle cash accurately, including end-of-day reconciliation and basic till administration.
- Receive deliveries, perform regular stock counts, and replenish shelves to keep displays tidy.
- Ensure store cleanliness, safety checks, and compliance with opening and closing procedures.
- Log inventory discrepancies and support periodic stock audits with clear notes.
Sales & Merchandising
- Set up product displays and update promotional signage according to store visual standards.
- Track daily sales activity and suggest simple ways to improve conversion and upsell opportunities.
- Assist in small product launches and in-store promotions by preparing materials and briefing customers.
- Support loss prevention by following store policies and reporting suspicious activity promptly.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 1 years of retail or front-line sales experience in a store environment, preferably in general merchandise or fashion.
- Secondary education or equivalent; any retail training or short courses are a plus.
- Comfortable working retail shift patterns including weekends and public holidays.
Hard Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with POS systems and basic cash handling procedures.
- Practical experience in stock replenishment, inventory counting, and simple stock record keeping.
- Basic merchandising skills, including setting displays and applying promotional layouts.
- Competent with mobile communication and simple retail apps for stock and sales checks.
Soft Skills & Qualities
- Strong communication in English and Bahasa Malaysia, with a friendly customer-first attitude.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well in a small team under a store supervisor.
- Attention to detail, honesty in cash and stock handling, and willingness to learn new tasks.
- Calm under pressure and able to prioritise tasks during busy store hours.
