Backend Developer

Responsibilities: - Design, build, maintain, and improve backend services using Typescript in a microservices architecture, prioritising availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of the platform. - Work with the back end engineering team to explore and create new design / architectures geared towards scale, maintainability, and performance. - Participate in code and design reviews to maintain high development standards. - Collaborate with product and experience teams to define and prototype feature specifications. - Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and reliability. Requirements: - 3+ years backend engineering experience, preferably in distributed microservices architectures. - Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals. - Strong TypeScript skills, with deep understanding of JavaScript fundamentals. - Experience deploying and operating services on GCP (or other cloud providers). - Solid understanding of REST API design and best practices. - Familiarity with message queues/event streaming (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ). - Experience with MySQL and MongoDB (or other NoSQL databases). - Experience with containerisation and CI/CD pipelines. - Knowledge of unit/integration testing frameworks. - Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. - Experience working with fintech or regulated industry is a plus.
