Senior Interior Designer
Job Summary
Greenwoods Creations Sdn Bhd is hiring a Senior Interior Designer on a Pre-Manager Track to independently manage residential and commercial projects. The role involves guiding junior designers, coordinating with site and production teams, and progressing toward department leadership. Candidates need 4-5 years of experience, strong detailing skills, and proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp.

Job Details
Key Responsibilities
Client & Design Management
- Independently handle selected residential and commercial design projects
- Understand client requirements, lifestyle, budget and project objectives
- Develop space planning, design concepts and material proposals
- Review technical drawings, specifications and design detailing
- Ensure designs are practical, buildable and commercially viable
- Present design proposals professionally to clients
- Manage design revisions and client expectations
Design Team Leadership
- Guide and mentor Junior Interior Designers
- Review design drawings before submission or fabrication
- Assist junior designers in solving technical and site-related issues
- Ensure designers follow company drawing standards, workflow and checklists
- Help allocate and monitor design workload
- Provide feedback and coaching to junior team members
Project & Execution Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Site Supervisor, Project Manager, factory and installation teams
- Ensure design intent is correctly translated into fabrication and installation
- Review site measurements and technical requirements before production
- Identify potential design or construction conflicts before fabrication
- Attend site meetings and inspections; resolve design-related issues during execution
- Monitor project progress, quality and handover requirements
Commercial & Cost Awareness
- Understand quotation structure and project costing
- Ensure design proposals remain within approved project budgets
- Identify variation works and additional scope
- Assist in quotation review where necessary
- Balance design quality, practicality and profitability
Department Development
- Participate in design standards development, drawing review systems and internal training
- Support designer performance monitoring, recruitment/onboarding and project assignment
- Improve design workflow and coordination between Design, Site and Factory departments
Requirements
- Minimum 4–5 years of interior design working experience
- Strong preference for candidates with residential renovation, fit-out or custom carpentry experience
- Able to independently manage projects from design development to site execution
- Strong understanding of interior detailing and carpentry construction
- Proficient in AutoCAD and SketchUp
- Comfortable using Excel
- Able to review technical drawings and identify potential problems
- Good understanding of material selection and construction methods
- Strong communication and client-management ability
- Able to mentor and guide junior designers; organised, responsible and detail-oriented
- Able to handle multiple projects in a structured manner; possess leadership potential
- Languages: Proficient in Mandarin and/or English; Bahasa Malaysia is an advantage
