Senior Accountant
Job Summary
Tudungruffle is seeking a Senior Accountant in Malaysia with at least 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in retail or multi-outlet businesses. The role involves managing full-set accounts, retail and outlet accounting, inventory and cost control, financial reporting, and tax compliance. Candidates must hold a degree in Accounting or Finance and have strong proficiency in SQL Accounting and Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilities
- Manage full-set accounts (AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliation)
- Perform retail and outlet sales reconciliation across multiple channels
- Monitor inventory transactions, cost control, and stock variances
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian tax, SST, and statutory requirements
- Liaise with external auditors and tax agents
Required Skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Full-Set Accounting
- Manage the full set of accounts, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), bank reconciliation, and journal entries.
- Ensure all accounting transactions are accurately recorded and properly supported.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
Retail & Outlet Accounting
- Perform and monitor daily/monthly retail sales reconciliation across multiple outlets and sales channels.
- Reconcile outlet sales with POS systems, payment gateways, bank receipts, and other sales platforms.
- Monitor cash collections, card payments, online payments, refunds, discounts, and other retail transactions.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between sales, inventory, and accounting records.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Work closely with the Retail, Warehouse, Merchandising, and Operations teams to monitor inventory transactions.
- Reconcile inventory balances and investigate stock variances.
- Monitor inventory valuation, stock movement, stock adjustments, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
- Assist in stock counts and ensure proper accounting treatment for inventory.
Financial Reporting & Management Accounts
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and financial reports for management review.
- Prepare account schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
- Provide financial analysis and highlight significant variances, trends, and potential issues.
- Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Monitor daily and monthly cash flow requirements.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and payment schedules.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Monitor collections, supplier payments, operational expenses, and cash requirements.
Tax, SST & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian accounting, tax, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and assist with SST submissions, tax-related schedules, and e-Invoice requirements.
- Liaise with tax agents and relevant authorities when required.
- Ensure statutory submissions and payments are completed accurately and within deadlines.
Audit & External Parties
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documents for annual audits.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, company secretary, bankers, and other external parties.
- Assist in resolving audit and accounting-related queries.
- Ensure proper documentation and audit trails are maintained.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Review existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Strengthen internal controls over sales, inventory, payments, expenses, and cash handling.
- Assist in improving accounting systems, reporting processes, and financial controls.
Team & Ad-Hoc Responsibilities
- Review and guide the work of Accounts Executives/Accounts Assistants where applicable.
- Support the Finance Manager and management with financial analysis and ad-hoc projects.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in retail, fashion, FMCG, distribution, or multi-outlet businesses.
- Strong experience in full-set accounting.
- Proficient in SQL Accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and financial formulas.
- Good understanding of SST, taxation, e-Invoice, and Malaysian statutory requirements.
- Experience with inventory accounting, retail sales reconciliation, and multi-outlet operations is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience liaising with auditors and tax agents is an advantage.
- ACCA / MIA / CIMA or other professional accounting qualifications will be an added advantage.
