Job Summary

This is a J-1 Rooms Division Internship at The Westin Buffalo, offering hands-on training across front desk operations, reservations, sales, and housekeeping supervision. The program is designed to provide comprehensive experience in the luxury hotel industry over a structured training period. Candidates will learn industry standards, property management systems, and guest service management.

Responsibilities

Job Details

Training Plan: Orientation (0,5 month): You will receive orientation to the company and local community and includes learning about our company’s customers, culture, business strategies, etc.; learn about payroll schedules and payroll tax withholding; local training area, housing options, apartment complexes and transportation options; meet key contacts and other employees; receive computer training on company systems; receive orientation to local community including cultural centers, volunteer opportunities, local sporting events, and entertainment venues. Orientation is scheduled to take up to one month and takes places concurrently with the first phase of training. Front Desk Agent (5,5 months): You will learn the front desk computer system; check-in and check-out procedures; promoting the Preferred Guest Program; cashier responsibilities; maintaining a house bank and making a deposit and accurate report of receipts daily; group arrivals procedures, guest room assignment, and control; walk over procedures; hourly house counts; sell-out controls; room key controls; room up-selling techniques; resolve guest concerns. Reservations/Sales (1 month): You will learn reservation computer system; reservation procedures; learn to process all incoming reservations via the telephone, mailed correspondence, rooming lists, and in-house requests and enter the information into the Property Management System (PMS); answer all incoming calls in a friendly and efficient manner. Provide guests with the requested information concerning the city, the hotel, and its services; obtain the necessary information from the guests and enter it into the PMS computer system. Learn and manage all interfaces relating to the CI/TY Sales System; block reservations for suites and to accommodate special requests; coordinate group room blocks with Sales department and input and accurately file all reservations received; review hotel information and availability; run confirmations and mail as assigned; assist the Front Office with pre-registration of V.I.P.’s and Preferred accounts. Housekeeping Inspector (5 months): You will learn to inspect guest rooms and public spaces to ensure compliance with all standards; coordinate all daily activities to clean guest rooms and public areas; manage and communicate updates to the housekeeping boards; communicate with the supervisor on room issues, supply needs and other pertinent information; learn to manage and oversee the daily housekeeping report; assist the Housekeeping Supervisors and Managers with projects; learn and assist the supervisory with the department inventory control; communicate with other departments when guest rooms are available for guest arrival. Requirements: You have a hospitality degree from a post-secondary academic education with a minimum 2-year full-time course, approved by the Ministry of Education, and Recent relevant work experience in the (ultra) luxury hotel industry
